“Ha!”

Settra’s lone laugh boomed. His ethereal voice clearly amused by the offer.

“How could YOU possibly help me?”

5 — All of Nehekharan society became so death obsessed that preparing for their own death was often the most important aspect of a Tomb King’s mortal life.

They all also believed they’d come back so death wasn’t seen as the end but as a continuation of duty.

4 — Any other male children of a Tomb King had to earn their place in their father’s tomb by serving faithfully in their father’s army.

If they died in battle: Their spot in the tomb was guaranteed. If they actively tried to take power then their bodies would be destroyed.

Ensuring total death.

3 — Typically, at least after Settra, the second-sons inherited titles. The First Borns were basically assigned to become either priests or members of the mortuary cult if they had magical power.

As for the other siblings?

2 — What separates the Tomb Kings from other undead factions is the fact that their resurrections maintain their identities and personalities.

So yeah.

Cool lore story times with Queek.

Context: It still is necromancy, but it’s theocratic and less COMPLETELY invasive.

In canon: Nagash literally entered the God’s domain and consumed it. Replacing it as the God Of Death and refusing to restore Settra’s armies as they fell to Nagash’s hordes.

It’s a fair conclusion that the God knew that Nagash could do that. So by supporting Settra and allowing the -

- ritualised death and undeath.

But if the civilisation was actually truly destroyed then there God would also fizzle out. Because no one would believe in it and it wouldn’t get anymore souls.

There’s also the Nagash problem.

Basically: When Nehekhara died, the rest of the pantheon died. The entire civilisation withered and died so they just fizzled out as a consequence.

But the God Of Death remained.

Because the undead came back. And their society (already death obsessed) now became utterly reliant on -
