Darktide got it right, imo. A Bolt Gun should just be a big box with a digital ammo counter on it. Slap accessories on it like a scope or a grenade launcher, lengthen it, add fancy iconography, whatever. But keep it boxy. Hide the mechanisms. 3/3

What I don't understand is what this rotary cylinder is doing above the breech. It's on half the Bolters in SM2 but not on all of them, like the Instigator and Marksman Carbine.
And why is it also on the Plasma gun?! 2/

I think there needs to be a talk about Bolters. The first image is what used to be standard Godwyn pattern bolt rifle. This was the standard Astartes bolter for several years.
When everything got Primaris'd, we got the Cawl pattern bolt rifle. Makes sense. 1/

This book is gorgeous. Having been a bookseller and remembering how hard it used to be to get anything Warhammer in print in the US, to now seeing a DK Guide for Warhammer is wild to me.
