It may sound strange but consider: Stronghold Crusader. Provided you build a wall and put some archers on it, most of AI's can't get through that, leaving you to build your city uninterupted.

Knowing that Socrates was the most buff man in Athens and so the AI man has zero chance to resist is for some reason a really nice feeling. Perhaps the reason will reveal itself to me if I look at AI apps on android that I can't remove.
