Yeah, I got you. With commercial engines I had the feel that you either needed a lot of time to really master them or actually be part of a team and have people specialize. I can certainly see the appeal of doing something purpose-built (and that you know intimately)

Hi, fellow software engineer here! Got two questions: 1) what was it that prompted you to start tinkering around the idea of building your own engine? 2) what got you to stick to it after the first tries?
