Throwback to that time (1987) when the good folk of Whitehall thought that Jura would be the perfect location to dump nuclear waste and my grandad wrote a booklet about why this was a bad idea. Kinda puts those offshore windfarms into perspective.

I am updating my grandfather's Jura Heritage book and today went in search of the 'remains' of a fank he noted near Corrynahera in the 1980s. It think 'remains' is a bit of an understatement. Overgrown but still very much standing!

Not only is it brilliantly written, it provides a deeply moving insight into the forced displacement of the #Palestinian people & the impact of the ongoing violence on ppl & communities.

So our power went off around about midday yesterday taking out most people's phone lines too because we are on fibre They are saying Monday before it goes back on. Then about 3pm yesterday the phone mast that covers most of Jura went down leaving us without any updates. Drove towards Islay this morning at first light to pick up a signal to discover the road to the ferry blocked. Not that it matters as all CalMac boats cancelled today due to storm damage at both ports. But.... Then I heard a rumour about a boat coming in to drop folk at the north end of Jura so went back in search of signal and phoned someone on Islay who gave me some skeleton info. Cue 2 hours driving round finding folk, journey north without knowing if the road was clear or the boat would wait, or what I would do once I arrived in Crinan. Made it. Lovely smooth boat journey and lift to lochgilphead for £50. Now awaiting some hot food. Bus to Glasgow in an hour or so. If I didn't already need this holiday, I do now...
