That feeling you get when you only write 300 words but it’s a pivotal and important 300 words.

Who came up with the phrase “working like a dog”?
As far as I can tell this guy’s day involves looking cute, eating sleeping and a quick once round the yard. Working not a high priority.

I think this guy likes the new spot.

“Sorry for all the burning.”

I would love to live next to the lake here, but then I hear the racket this lot is making tonight and I wonder…

Does seem like tonight is the last truly warm night for walking the dog around the lake. Winter is coming. But not yet.

It’s September 30 and it’s freaking 28 degrees C here in The Peg…. Even Archie has to stay in the shade

I am going to have to do some yard cleaning this weekend. I am just not sure I want to stick my hand anywhere near this. Either it’s a colossal spider or a fake Donald Sutherland is growing in my garden.

One of the more unpleasant tasks today was scraping the blood and guts off the top of my hot tub after this guy decided to use it as his dinner table. Swainson’s Hawk maybe?

I’m going to open this one tonight.

So, I go down one of these internet rabbit holes because research and ADHD. Sorry if everyone knows this, but tonight I discovered that Neil Young played in a band with Rick 'Superfreak' James. What he hell did that sound like?

Maybe it’s the glistening water, the warm mountain air or the gallons of prosecco, but this place is pretty conducive to resolving plot holes.

Usually, I post one of these from my deck. But tonight's from my balcony.

I planted this guy two years ago and it bloomed first year then nothing. I assumed the first winter had killed it. Reappeared this July. Plants are weird. Evening Primrose.

The Abbysinian Gladiolus decided to finally make an appearance.

So, I am sitting with a sore knee up and started watching a show about a bunch of guys searching for pirate treasure on Oak Island. They have not found anything. In 11 seasons of the show. I have many questions.

I have a monarch butterfly garden. Not one monarch this year. I built a hummingbird garden. Again not a solitary bird this year. What is going on? Anyway. Bee balm.

I think my dislike of lupines is a legacy of a Monty Python sketch. They are actually quite pretty.

Quite the loud and dramatic storm. The aftermath.

Seems like a more poignant #canadaday this year given what is going on. As per tradition, enjoying a Canadian beer on the deck. (Seeing as my next novel takes place partly in Kenora I wonder if I could get some consideration from Lake of the Woods brewing co. if I mention their name. )

Nice way to spend #canadaday lakeside hanging with the Icelanders in Gimli.
July 1, 2025 at 10:24 PM
It’s Canada Day so this seems apt. Red and white Maltese Cross.
