Software developer. I like video games. Icon is Cucumber Quest's Peridot, by ggdg (cucumber.gigidigi.com)
Hikaru no Go is phenomenal (and the anime comes with an all-timer of a soundtrack) but you already have to enjoy the board game to some extent to truly feel it. And most people who know the board game have already heard of it, so it takes a high spot on my "wish I could recommend" list.

Since this video, whenever I see John Madden written down I can only read it like this

If you finish it, would you consider writing about how you ended up solving it? I love reading about practical gamedev solutions.

Oh yeah, that's not great advice for existing games. I just read the other comments. For enemy design, I find composition over inheritance makes it easier to only code behavior once. What kind of functions do you need to reimplement per enemy?

For game development, do it once you actually have two or more use cases for your code that you're sure about. Refactoring too early will lead to considering infinite generic possibilities that may never happen (or may change yet again with your requirements) and it can kill your momentum.

Often I've thought you could only get to a "balanced" crazy effects lategame for a game like this if it builds up in the same slow manner as something like MtG, but the Mindbug mechanic is a really clever way to skip the early/midgame without completely turning it into a roulette.

The lightness is a major strength to me, simply because you can have new players or guests not all that dedicated to tabletop games sort of experience the ups and downs of MtG combat in mere minutes. While less complex, the engagement does feel similar

Highly recommended - the most noticeable thing for me is that the generated heroes are a lot more balanced in line with regular ones, so you're no longer getting duds 90% of the time. They're actually fun to include in the options and pick now!

They stop eventually but it will be a mile into the densest foliage you've ever seen

Slice & Dice mentioned, I think it might just be the best game to have on mobile

Congrats! It's a super charming game and it's well deserved.

How do I go from never hearing about it to hearing two people mention Labyrinth of Time in the same week? This is crazy
