Williamson at 3b is so much fun to watch and he hit quite well after he got sent back to Tacoma. If he can just be average offensively, that fills a big hole. Randy confuses me so much. He's too athletic to be that bad defensively.

It really seems like Crawford needs to be moved to 2b or traded at this point. Love the guy, but tightening up the defense would be one of the easiest ways to make a big improvement year over year.

There is a good positional scarcity argument to make. Seattle replacing Cal's 9.1 at catcher is way more difficult than NYY replacing Judge's 10.1 in RF.

My favorite part of these arguments is what goes unsaid: "If you ignore everything but hitting...", "if you ignore the catcher position being the most difficult and important position", "if you ignore that SEA is the most difficult place to hit and NYY play in a bandbox...", then it's all very clear

That’s a distinction without a difference. The whole article about your “player” of the year is about his offensive performance. How is it any different from a hitter of the year award? Your premise shows that there is only one part of the game that is considered for this award. It’s truly odd.

I would agree if you were discussing the Hank Aaron Award, but regarding Most Valuable Player, I disagree. Admittedly, I'm an M's fan, so I'm biased. I feel like the counterargument article was much more convincing and even that article doesn't really emphasize the importance of a catcher.
