A colossal pool, 20 stories deep. I sat in the bottom corner on three large steps. In the opposite corner, a ship in sun rays floated at the water's surface.
I decided to reach for that ship... so I began swimming.

Oh!! I did early marker sketches too. Here I tested some ideas and body types (including a silly one on the second page, top right, lol).
I kept some elements like the ice mask and belly. Couldn't have done it without this trial and error; markers make it easy to quickly iterate concepts.

Trackpad doodle, proper sketch, then color test. The colors helped me realize my composition was too stiff; kept leading the eye out of frame instead of in. I fixed it by bringing the foreground much closer to the 'viewer' bracketed by ice.
