I went on a walk in the hopes of seeing a skylark today (no luck), but was instead graced by a crow on this very nice dead tree. Definitely my favorite crow pic so far! 🪶

I'm back, and I have brought birbs

We covered the illustrious topic of borbs, so now it's time for another favorite genre of mine:

Birds staring directly into the camera

#birds
A male blackbird screams at the camera. Its head is slightly tilted to our left, and its beak is wide open as it loudly announces its displeasure at the intrusion into its territory. The blackbird is entirely black, with the exception of its yellow beak and skin surrounding its eyes. A european robin stares down the camera with a rather astonished look. Its face and throat are orange, its belly is white and the feathers covering its wings and back are grey-ish brown. A long-tailed tit displays the ultimate combination of bird's best traits: Borbness and goofiness. Its feathers are all puffed up, particularly towards its belly, giving the impression that the bird wears flared pants. The long-tailed tit is mostly white, with some black markings on top of its head. Its upper eyelids are yellow. It has a very short black bill. A great egret goes for maximum goof. Its neck is so long it eventually leaves the frame in the bottom right corner. The egret is all white, with a yellow bill and green-ish parts around its yellow eyes.

Mother grebe drops off a fish before going on the hunt for more.
Juvenile great crested grebes are frequently carried on the back of a parent - even when diving for food. At around 10-11 weeks old they begin to hunt on their own.

I promised jumping spiders so here we go!

I came across this young male E. arcuata in the forest back in August. That inquisitive glance upwards gets me every time!

The spider is darkly colored, with a black body, brownish legs and some white and yellow hairs on its face. Macro photo of a common woodlouse facing the camera. Its segmented body is mostly a brownish grey which turns brighter towards the edges of the segments. Bright, yellowish patches are scattered throughout its armor. The woodlouse has black compound eyes and segmented antennae. And yes, that's probably a piece of poop on top of it, just out of focus.

I'm a passionate photographer of all things birb and other small critters like isopods and jumping spiders, based in southern Germany.

My first post is dedicated to one of my favorite genres of birbs: BORBS. Only the floofiest of floofs! #birds

Its feathers are mostly brown, with a darker shade on its dorsal side and a lighter shade on its belly. Its most striking feature is its orange-red throat and face. Photo of a chaffinch all borbed up, perched on a small stick running vertically through the frame. I would rate it a solid 9/10 on the scale of borb. The bird's front is mostly covered in brown feathers, its head capped by grey feathers. Its wings are darker shades of brown and black, with white and yellow highlights mixed in. The chaffinch has a beige bill. Photo of another European robin perched on a fence pole in the golden light of sunset. It is turned sideways to face to our left. It is of decent floofyness, rating an encouraging 6/10 on the borbness scale. Photo of a long-tailed tit perched on a mossy branch. The floofness of this specimen is literally off the charts. Rating it would be inadequate and only lead to insult against the outstanding roundness of this borb. The long-tailed tit has a white underside with some cream or pink hues mixed in, and its head and back feature blacks and dark greys. Its tail feathers are extremely long in proportion to its body. It has a short, black bill and strikingly yellow upper eyelids.
