This is a great suggestion! Be careful, though: you might think someone is doing this with you when they’re actually using you to sub in so they can leave the conversation. (Another common AAR phenomenon. 😁)

Never! For those who don’t know, Martin is one of the funniest, cleverest, and kindest people in the field. You literally can’t “trade up” from him!

You should rank the AAR/SBL cities. That would be fun and no one would get mad, I bet.

Good question! I’m a bit out of the loop…but I don’t think so. I think zoom interviews have taken their place. I’d actually be interested to hear if I’m mistaken about that!

4. The Explainer: some teachers are especially good at helping students understand things, whether by bringing difficult ideas down to earth or relating them to a larger context. Here I think of Angela Carpenter, Cornel West, and Sarah Hammerschlag.

3. The Pedagogue: these are people who have an extensive repertoire of teaching techniques and know when to deploy each of them. Neil Arner and Erin Galgay Walsh are both exceptional at this.

I'm also feeling a bit like a disembodied self here, so I think I will import some representative tweets just so people get a feel for the sort of persona I maintain. This seems important, especially as so many people are trying to figure out who to follow. I may not be your cup of tea! 🙂
