Is this even legal?

The pacing is not dissimilar from the first season of BCS, but this show is far more solitary in nature. The premise is great and the show is smart if slow. I get the gripes, but do think it’s working toward something that could be exceptional, so I’m giving it some Gilligan earned grace.

This is true, but mostly because of its sheer versatility.
