But if your goal is not to defend the U.S. against peers but to pound your chest on social media while you bully banana republics into submission, then by all means rebrand as the "Department of War" and use all of our military resources to sink civilian fishing boats. What could possibly go wrong?

Meanwhile, China is probably laughing at our distractions while they build hard-to-intercept hypersonic missiles capable of sinking our $13 billion carriers from thousands of miles away. Our tactics and fleet are outdated against all except outdated enemies.

It’s almost as if, I dunno, you have to understand how the government works before you can reform it. You also have to be willing to reform military spending, which is typically the most inefficient and unaccountable line item in the budget.

I don’t mean to imply that this is on the same scale as, say, illegally detaining and destroying the belongings of U.S. citizens in Chicago. Just pointing out that, in general, policies meant to “pwn the libs” are pwning the whole country. Who could’ve predicted that, other than anyone with a brain?
