Nice, the true metroidvania experience.
I uh, went to deepnest after fungal wastes, got stuck there for a while, got to the ancient basin, then to kingdom's edge, from there I entered city of tears and finally got a stag station.
After that I was mostly checked the map for where I haven't been to.

Nice. What path did ya take in the game? Or to be more specific, what was a bit the order of area's for you?
I love how open this game is and it always interesting to see what path people take.

I learned that after I beat it 100%.
Even then I wanted to only quit when on a bench. Never wanted to quit to save myself.

You do Steel Soul if you want to experience true despair when you die 20 hours in.

You play Steel Soul and just to start act 3 you are forced into a section with only 4 masks and nothing equipped. None of your prior preparation matters and 2 hits in a forced combat room deletes 20 hours of progress.
I don't know why they thought that was a good idea.

Hollow Knight had early enemies that dealt double damage but they were fairly easy to avoid and bosses for a very long time only dealt one. By the time you get like 7-8 masks and a bunch of abilities, then double damage became more common. At that point you were ready to deal with it.

It is so well made in many aspects but it feels so mean. I still enjoyed the overall experience but the double damage should have been done more sparingly in the first half alongside making rosaries a bit more common. I always felt short on money for just the essentials 'till the 2nd half.
