Beverages served in SKULLS because you need a memento mori as you slake your thirst. Tepache on the left, water on the right. The Tepache is lovely—

Okay, here we go: I am at Ay Wey! Tacos in Ottawa and here are the menus. I’ve ordered the Tepache to drink as that’s new to me.

Spiffy reader Jennifer came by to say howdy and talk about space and how soon we can launch billionaires into it and we agreed it should be soon

At Hal-Con and already scored a gnome hat from spiffy reader Heather! I’m at the Author’s Row on the Vendor Floor and I have goodies for folks who come see me! I will happily sign all the things this weekend! AND I WILL WEAR THIS HAT

Trying a taqueria in Halifax. The muralist is pretty good!

Also I got to meet @danparent.bsky.social and have a lovely conversation with him. He ordered the Lou Fada, and it looks thusly and tastes divine. Dan draws Archie comics and I think I’m going to commission a piece from him where Jughead is inhaling a Sauvage and realizing that he quite likes kale
November 6, 2025 at 11:50 PM
I ordered the Sauvage. GAZE UPON ITS GLORY. You have not had pizza like this before. This is a new kind of pie for your pie hole. So if you are in Halifax, you owe it to your pie hole to get one of these pies. Because it sure as heck ain’t even in the ballpark with Dominos.

Ok so a few months back I saw a CBC article reporting that two Canadians made the list of the top 100 pizza chefs in the whole dang world and one of them was in Halifax. SO GUESS WHERE I HAD DINNER? At Lou Pécou, where what they do is on another level. BEHOLD A WEE GLIMPSE OF THE MENU:

Anyway, here is a squirrel

So I went to the Lotus Kitchen in Halifax and daaaaang it was delicious. If you’re coming to town for Hal-Con and want something perfect to combat the chill, they have hot pots and such!

If you’re thinking, hey, I deserve a treat, you’re right! Maybe you want to read about a dog who deserves treats too, and you want it for cheap because dang, this economy. So grab HOUNDED for $2 in Ebook while it’s on sale! All platforms in the US.

Now. About that ice cream sandwich.
November 5, 2025 at 5:43 PM
It’s cool when you can get stuff for cheap. Even better when it’s fun stuff, like the adventures of a Druid and his wolfhound who’s got a thing for sausages. HOUNDED is on sale in Ebook for $1.99 this week. Let your peeps know or take a gander yourself!

Gratuitous huevos rancheros

And now you serve over rice, garnish with your green onion and sesame seeds. Lovely stuff, really, just a terribly inaccurate title for the recipe. This has been Cooking with Uncle Kevin, an infrequent series of culinary experiments. Cheers

Scoop in a tablespoon of gochujang paste, and then add your red chili flakes too (or don’t, if you don’t like spicy, this is a taste thing). Stir it up, watch it get all red and delicious looking, and when it looks and smells ready, it is. FOURTEEN MINUTES, TIMELORD, NOT FIVE. Still, pretty quick

Cooking the pork to get it all loosey goosey and unfrozen and mixed with those goodies? 8-9 minutes at least. Then you start adding stuff! Like your onion. Grind some black pepper on there. Stir and cook another two minutes. We’re up to ten.

Ran out of room—you also need gochugaru (red chili flakes) to your preferred spice level. I used two tablespoons; & two cloves of garlic, minced.

Dump all your pork belly in a skillet and don’t worry, it’ll melt and cook down. Drizzle “two circles” of the oil, sauces, & syrup. Throw in garlic.

Wait, no, start your rice. Wash and soak, then make it how you like it. I rock a cheap rice cooker. Then, get your stuff out:
•oyster sauce
•sesame oil
•soy sauce (low sodium is cool)
•maple syrup because THIS! IS! CANADA!
•sliced white onion
•sliced green onion
•sesame seeds
•gochujang
