You can search the online records of NSW Archives for free. Start at mhnsw.au and select State Archives, but you will need a name as tens of thousands of people emigrated to Australia.

If you are not sure which state of Australia they came to try glam-workbench.net . This is a very technical site.

Today, I am attending a series of talks and a tour of the NSW Archives here in Sydney. The focus of the talks is the records of the assisted immigrants to NSW, in particular the Irish that were sent here during the Great Famine. #Genhour #FamilyHistory #Genealogy.

Thanks

I call AI FI - fake intelligence. It has more hype than quality.

The scanning is fine. The indexing is iffy the further back you go as AI struggles with older script. Coverage is great - there's only 1 parish I couldn't find (Swavesey). Always good to look at the original image!

Hi Emily, I have Cambridgeshire ancestors, too. I haven't gotten around to checking these out yet. Is the quality of the scanning good? I bought many parish records from the family history society years ago. Hopefully, I will find soe new connections #Genhour

Can you research this Thomas to see if he is the same as John?

I have some ancestors known by two names o official documents. Also, some apparent accidental incorrect names for fathers, especially where they are deceased, when the bride or groom get married. #GenHour

Thanks 😊

I thought about doing a UK based but decided to start with Australia as I will be marketing myself here. Aus based courses always cover UK research anyway.

I can always do a UK based course later. #GenHour

I am only an occasional visitor to #GenHour due the time here in Sydney (5:30am).

I have decided to do a certificate course with the Society of Australian Genealogists with the aim of becoming a professional researcher.

Wish me luck for the next 11 months.

Have you tried newspapers in the area your relative returned to? Also, look for books on the matter. They might not name him but may explain what Camp 4 is. #Genhour.

Have you thought about Australia?
