This is kind of an fun pattern with authoritarians:
1. Use a broad base of supporters to rise.
2. Purge or neutralize them once consolidated.
3. Rule by fear and rotating loyalists.

Unless a person is insane, or malevolently dishonest, we can all agree on some core truths. Fire is hot, for example. From there to "climate change is a hoax" is an interesting gap.

The USDA not being allowed to refer to climate change doesn't make the impacts of climate change on our farmers and insurance and most other aspect of life any less real. Any reasonable adult knows this.
