I have put 40 years into a journalism career at the Omaha World-Herald. Now covering breaking news (cops, courts and counties) but had a long run in sports. Living in flyover country with a West Coast state of mind.
The Wednesday afternoon “Dive Bar Club” visiting the last surviving tavern of the great Clairmont Heights neighborhood. The topic is every damn thing but there’s a lot of joy in discussion of last night’s election results.

It may be raining downtown at the College World Series, but it’s only overcast on the patio of Clairmont Heights last remaining tavern. The Blue Dot is enigmatic in all things.

In the men’s room today in the Claremont Heights neighborhood tavern. 12 years was not much time to move a monolith like the Catholic Church.

Last 2025 Holy Name fish fry is this Friday in O-town. No fry on Good Friday, so this is final chance for the best fish dinner around - and it’s all you can eat - until 2026. Serving the multitudes since 1982.

Jazz jam in the lone tavern in Omaha’s Claremont Heights neighborhood. These cats are wailing. Yes, that is a Sousaphone.

Irish on both sides of the family! Dad is wearing his bow tie that lit up when he pushed on it. Little kids loved it and he loved making them smile. St. Patrick’s Day 2006. I’d love to relive that day.

The only tavern in North Omaha’s Claremont Heights neighborhood managed to break a key part of the keno machine. The repair people didn’t believe that part can be broken. “We’re No. 1!”

Be prepared to go to one westbound lane tonight through Tuesday near the only tavern in Omaha’s Claremont Heights neighborhood. The patio dwellers are enjoying the antics. “Horn blows” has never been so much invoked.

Our newsroom is so quiet on most Christmas Days that it is practically holy. American journalists and journalists all over the world, however, are at work. The motto at the Omaha World-Herald is “Free press, free people.”

After a lapse of several years, I am again subscribing to a magazine that fits my personality. Sure wish I hadn’t let mom throw out my collection from the 1960s.
