I love running, reading, and writing, but progressive politics will also make an appearance here, from time to time.
The picture reflects how I feel about the running this week; blood glucose numbers were a roller coaster, but the end of the week has been positive: kevinbrownwrites.weebly.com/blog/

My most recent poem, this one in THE MIDWEST QUARTERLY; years ago, they published a critical article that would become part of my only critical book publication

Another week, so another blog post about trying to get back into running, now with type 1 diabetes. This post also has some music, though not by me, of course. kevinbrownwrites.weebly.com/blog/pump-it...

Spike Lee loves NY, music, and Denzel; when he's on, there might not be anybody better; he's on at @belcourttheatre.bsky.social right now.

I ran a PR for a 5K in the Strawberry Stride in Portland, TN. Nothing like getting fresh strawberries for winning my age group.
May 10, 2025 at 9:45 PM
What a day: I set a PR in a 15K (it's the only one I've ever run, but I still ran the time I was aiming for, so I'm thrilled with the result), then I watched PRINCESS MONONOKE on the big screen at the @belcourttheatre.bsky.social

Some official pictures from the Wendell Foster Half Marathon in Owensboro, KY, to celebrate the PR (and one from The Pharmacy where I celebrated when we got back into town); thanks to Inzaption Photos for the great race pics (and to Courtney for the post-race ones)
April 1, 2025 at 9:12 PM
No action shots yet (they'll come later this week), but after 3 1/2 years of trying, I set a PR in the half marathon by 20 seconds. It's nice to know I'm not done yet.

More details to come in the next few months, but I can officially announce that my next book of poems, JACK IMAGINES A DIFFERENT MAP, should come out this fall from @finishinglinepress.bsky.social; it's been a while since I've had a book come out, so, needless to say, I'm looking forward to it

I know lots of people will be posting/writing about Jimmy Carter, so here's an essay I published in Midnight Mind a few months ago. He helped a boy from rural Tennessee see a wider, kinder world.
