Yes. Take a look. Even if you type “reimagining liberty,” you get no results.

Got the chance to be at an event with Norwegian crime writer Orjan Karlsson a few months ago, and read the first book (Into Thin Air) of his new series recently, and it's a definite recommendation. A fine, well-executed novel with good characters and storytelling.

I haven't read Asimov's Magazine since the 1990s, but what a pleasure it is going back to it. Wonderful, entertaining, thoughtful stories. The May/June issue features a terrific time travel story by Harry Turtledove (@hntdove.bsky.social) as well.

Recommending this biography (which I'm most of the way through): detailed, but very well-written and interesting. Kracauer exists somewhat in the space of the Frankfurt School and critical theory, interacting with Benjamin, Adorno, and others. (Polity, 2020).

What a joy it is to be able to buy the first book of a major new series by Alan Moore.

Very well-written book; halfway through as of now.

@tadethompson.bsky.social Tade: Just saw this at the other place — via Paul Chadwick, actually — and I would have to presume this artisit (Franklin Booth) very much influenced Wrightson’s approach to Frankenstein. You can immediately see the close similarities in approach/style.

@tadethompson.bsky.social Tade: I screen-capped this as I thought you’d appreciate it. Paul has mentioned this artist a few times; I need to take a moment to look into his work.

Seeing the Oppenheimer film — an impressive achievement in numerous ways — makes me really want to read this book; but I have too much on the go right now. I will get to it, however, in due time.

Terrific crime book: Anne Holt's "Blessed Are Those Who Thirst."

A book recommendation: Tracy Kidder's "Rough Sleepers": A very honest and detailed account of homelessness in the Boston area (and beyond) and some of the people who do what they can to help.

I’m only on the second in the series, but a quick recommendation for the Wexford crime novels of Ruth Rendell. Her delineation of characters and motivations, and her deft prose, make these novels a real pleasure to read so far.
