Letterboxd Friday screencap of last four movies watched. I genuinely don't know what I have been doing to myself lately; I don't even really like horror/suspense, but it's a little bit of Halloween hangover I guess. A Quiet Place: I had previously tried to watch this movie about two years ago and had to turn it off around the time she was giving birth in the bathtub because it stressed me out so much. I rented it from the library and watched half of it last Friday night... and had to pause it around the time she was giving birth in the bathtub because it stressed me out. But! Then I watched the rest of it the next day. Excellent movie, scary aliens. The foreshadowing was a little obvious, like, the unbent nail and the hearing aid and whatnot, like, so many of Chekov's guns, but I definitely enjoyed it. A Quiet Place, Part II: I, uh, also was not able to watch it all in one sitting, but I did watch it all in one day. I enjoy this 'verse, but, like, I would definitely have screamed on day one, because it seems like an awful lot of effort, not-getting-eaten. Mean Girls (the musical): Honestly, I watched like half of this to de-stress after A Quiet Place and then had to go to bed. I saw this live when it toured through Pittsburgh (might've been one night only? I don't remember) and honestly I think some of the performances in the film are not as strong, but it warms my queer little heart. Sinners: Oh, wow, everyone was right. This was really good. Loved the music. I kind of felt like the plot was a little basic but no need to put a hat on a hat... music, vampires, racism. What more do you need?

Last three movies I watched, except really two and a half. I'm actively watching "Night School" right now, because I only watched half of it on Wednesday and then went to bed, like, the struggle is real. I cannot watch four movies in a week, I just can't. I'm a TV series guy. Long form entertainment in short form bites. Night School - I forgot I don't really like Kevin Hart (I find him kind of shrill and way too high-energy in his performances) but I rented this because Tiffany Haddish is always having just the absolute best time in her movies. I dunno, there were funny sequences but it's not a good movie. 65 - Adam Driver is *technically* an alien, who pilots a transport ship for an alien civilization. For reasons we aren't going to think about too hard, his route takes him through our solar system, despite how much *space* there is in space, like, why would you ever go into a gravity well with a compartively high density of ~~objects~~ when there's so much space in space? Oh shoot, I overthought it. Anyway, he runs into some debris and crashes on Earth, except it is 65 million years before humans, so there are omg wtf dinosaurs. Most of this has to be explained to the viewer through a lot of expository text onscreen. So, look, this is possibly the stupidest movie I have seen all year (and I am actively watching "Night School" as I type this) and yet I enjoyed it so so much. Honestly, Adam Driver ~somehow~ elevated this movie, finding some kind of, like, emotional core to what otherwise could've been a generic action hero character. The man can act. I kind of hate that I enjoyed it as much as I did. MIB International - I forgot this movie existed when I binge-watched the other MIB movies this past summer. I had seen it before and remembered ~none~ of it. It was fine. Just... fine.

Arsenic and Old Lace - Top 5 Halloween films of all time. Of all time! Jumpin' Jack Flash - I was raised by two lesbians? C'mon, Mick. Alien Romulus - watched it in 30 minute increments. I would like to speak to someone about the IBC and IACUC protocols involved in cloning all of those face huggers. Why did they freeze down so many face huggers?!?!? Nobody - I saw a preview last fall for the sequel, Nobody 2, and figured that if they had made a sequel that maybe the original was good. But it was not.

Last four movies watched: The first hour and ten minutes of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. You guys, I have literally attempted to watch this movie like five times and last night was the first time I ever made it past the fight-atop-the-moving-train scene. Fights on top of moving trains are so done; this is why Fox should never have aired "The Train Job" as the first episode of "Firefly," those idiots. Barely any dialogue during the extended opening sequence, and yet half of it was German with English subtitles so I still had to kind-of pay attention. Anyway so far I know there is a half a macguffin, a woman who can't be trusted, and... astronauts for some fucking reason? Digitally de-aged Harrison Ford is creeping me out, but actually-elderly Harrison Ford is somehow even worse. I am going to try really hard to finish this movie tonight or tomorrow because it needs to go back to the library, but I am somehow even less interested in this than I was in Crystal Skull (which at least was filmed partly in New Haven, and had one of my coworkers as an extra, although I'm still not sure where exactly she appears or if she would be recognizable.) Wicked - I'm choosing to believe that having watched it twice last weekend rounds out my last four watched even if "half of Indiana Jones" doesn't count. I don't know if I like this movie or not! I feel like it takes a little too long to get to the point? But on the second rewatch (third watch ever) I kind of enjoyed it? Captain America Brave New World: Harrison looked really terrible in this. I only halfway paid attention, and 100% missed who the villain was supposed to be. Like, they fed him Kryptonite and made him smart and he's mad about it? Or am I thinking of Bizzarro in Red Hood and the Outlaws? Assassin's Game - omfg what kind of filmed on an iphone 3GS bullshit was this? Terrible acting, terrible directing, and I could have done with 100% less of Tom Sizemore screaming homophobic slurs. Skip it.

Also I checked this out from the library *right* before the Kimmel thing when we hated Disney and I felt guilty for watching it the whole time.
