I know you're probably forced to use MS Office (web?) at work in this situation, but I have used EM Client for years and love it.

I know some web clients time out due to inactivity. Personally I prefer Fastmail and their desktop app.

In general, the supposed solutions to these kinds of issues feel "designed by committee" by politicians who will likely never live in these situations. Denser housing sounds great, but it's often implemented poorly.
