At one WSPU demonstration she smashed windows in the West End of London, which landed her in Holloway prison alongside Pankhurst and Emily Davison. Our Governor's minutes note that she was absent from work to attend protests, and that the cost of hiring cover would be docked from her pay. 2/3

For #InternationalWomensDay tomorrow, we’re highlighting Gladys Hazel, an English teacher at Aston Girls' School, 1905-1910. After witnessing the poverty in the Birmingham slums and hearing Emmeline Pankhurst speak at Birmingham Town Hall, she became a suffragette. 1/3
