I think the ruling classes have done to us with climate change as they have with COVID.
Convince us that it's "no big deal" and shift accountability from those in power to the individual instead, making us feel absolutely powerless to do anything about it.
So we lose hope and give up.

i used to naively think that australians would only pay serious attention to climate change after it started impacting the barrier reef (and the vast associated tourism industry) but now i realise there’s literally nothing that’s so appalling that it cannot be ignored
