Living in Alberta is kind of tiring. PP is running in my parents’ riding, people think we want to not be Canadian (most of us want to stay as Canadians), Marlena and the UCP are making a mess of everything, and I don’t have an NDP MP anymore.

Voted ❎! I always feel such an amount of responsibility to vote. Women have only been able to do so for a little over 100 years in Canadian federal elections. I am so lucky someone fought for me to vote.

Biked to my doctor’s office, biked to the polling station, biked to work. All by 10:30am. I can do this. There are bike lanes! And cool bike detection technology that changes lights for me in several spots!

Tried to have an intelligent conversation on Threads and that place is chaos and teaching me a lot about trolls.

1. I like working and managing people and really enjoy my job.
2. #1 doesn’t mean I don’t miss my academic life and the people that I was connected with there. I really do.

I foresee a lot more American academic and professional associations will be holding conferences in Canada and with Canadian orgs in order to allow them to more freely discuss their work

I was triggered today by something someone wrote that the national post published and was transported back to summer 2021.

I’ve been doing a recipe a day from old Canadian cook books over on threads. Probably should replicate here!

So, the non-profit I used to work for posted a memorial post about a donor (which they’ve done a few times in the past 3 years. Always old white dudes). In the past 3 years, I recall 5 of my colleagues passing away and they barely acknowledged it.

One of my most favourite things about being back up Edmonton way is that I can see shows at the Citadel Theatre again. And having a small amount of disposable income means I can have seasons tickets. I have missed theatre scene in Edmonton since I left home 15 years ago.

What the heck. I had so many good and well thought out Tweets about things I know about and none ever got 2k likes. I make one random thought statement on Threads about flared leggings vs. yoga pants and people are all over it. I DO NOT GET THE INTERNET.

I’m looking forward to a really settled 2025, personally. Sure the world is a trash fire, at least I won’t be moving, starting a new job, or ending any major relationships.
