Health professionals need to be ready to say “no,” in the interest of the nation’s health, their own morale and well-being, and democratic mechanisms of public decision-making. Professional organizations, academic institutions, and their funders can and should play a critical role in this regard by offering ethical and legal counsel, as well as support for colleagues feeling alone and afraid.
