Definitely better than zero! These word counts are similar to mine with some 960 and 1200s every now and then. Can’t deny this is progress!

Victory for me. I at least got 200 words in my draft before I had to get a root canal. Thank the lord for nitrous.

Ha! Probably take a day off to celebrate and then start editing. Still lots of work to do but this will be the fastest I’ve gotten through a first draft. Almost happy dance time!

Quite a bit in the beginning, not so much as I’m writing (though I read a lot of books in my genre as I’m writing), and then really get back into the expectations a lot during rewrites. Rewriting is when I try to find ways to break the rules for the benefit of the reader, though.

Fascinating how we all do it differently. I’ve started to put all kinds of notes and checklists for what I want in that chapter, then I write the chapter underneath it so that each time I go back to that chapter I know what I need to add so I can check it off the list.

That’s the perfect compromise. Is your plot complete before you start the first chapter?

I am both as well. I’m forcing myself to plot more but usually only 3-5 chapters ahead. Always adjusting, seeing what works better for me.

I come up with a basic story then, as I’m writing, figure out which genre it fits best. So I can start on marketing as I’m creating the first draft.
