Clinical herbalist helping clients weave herbal medicine and conventional care together for whole-person health. I specialize in stress, menopause, and preventative healthcare, meeting people through online appointments and community.

Did you know that some everyday plants hold fascinating properties and traditional uses? I was on a break and walking through the hospital's roof patio garden. I admit that I enjoy the fact that these medicinal herbs were hiding there...traditional medicine found in a modern hospital garden. 💜

Working in the ER this week, I've already seen coughs, fever, vomiting, body aches, and it's only the 3rd week of October. Besides elderberry syrup and homemade chicken soup, building your immunity is the most important thing you can do. See if you can check off each of these strategies this week!

People underestimate the power of herbs to heal. They’re gentle and take time to work for the most part, though there are some that work quickly. Herbs, diet and lifestyle improvements can often make remarkable, positive health changes. As a clinical herbalist, I’ve seen this happen to my clients.

I found this scraggly German Chamomile plant in the strip of land outside the hospital. It looks like it's been trampled. Plants really do want to help us - even being available on hospital grounds!

Chamomile is excellent for soothing digestive troubles and calming the body in general.

Enjoyed a herb walk at the lovely Ferguson Forest, including the indigenous space.

We learned a ton and it seemed every step we took included another medicinal herb! Thanks to Rebecca and Lorraine for the educational tour!

I grow herbs & food in my garden & also basil, lettuce in my gazebo. My daughter bought the live lettuce trio. I put it in water & it’s growing more lettuce.

Basil is nutritious/tasty. Toss some in to chopped tomatoes/cucumbers/seasoned salt!

My elderberry tree last year. I cut it right back to 1-foot twigs in the start of the year, as there's not much room for it to expand. By around mid-summer, it was wider than my outstretched arms. I'm hoping for the same this year!

The flowers and cooked or dried berries have medicinal properties.

Herbalism isn't the rejection of conventional medicine. It's the recognition that both approaches have valuable tools for different situations. #herbalmedicine #healingherbs #plantmedicine

To make dandelion-infused oil, let freshly-picked flowers wilt overnight. Pack into a small Mason jar and cover with olive oil (or oil of your choice). Sit in a windowsill and rotate jar daily; make sure flowers stay covered in the oil. After 6 weeks, strain oil and use on skin or in massage.

Not sure if you're ready to try making a dandelion green salad just yet? There are a couple of fun things you can try - dandelion leaf tea and dandelion massage oil. Pick some dandelion leaves and place in a mug. Add boiling water and let leaves steep. Add honey and a slice of lemon, then enjoy.

Rather than spraying to get rid of dandelions in your lawn, why not go out to pick them to enjoy the free food and medicine? 🙂 See my previous post.

⁉️ Did you know that the white substance you see from a dandelion stalk is latex and is a source of rubber? In fact, they are using it to make tires.
Five Fun Facts About Dandelion Tires
Most people view dandelions as a nuisance. But here at Continental Tire, we embrace the flowering weed as a key component to the future of tires.

The first dandelion has appeared in my yard! You can eat the flowers and leaves in salad, or brew a lovely dandelion leaf tea. The roasted roots make a coffee substitute. Dandelion tea is an effective diuretic and support digestive and liver health, too.

Making potato-leek soup and the best part? I’m going to try to regrow leeks from the root end and using the dark green parts to make a homemade vegetable broth when I gather enough veggie scraps. Minimize waste and maximize nutrition. #regrowvegetables #homemadefoodisthebest #potatoleeksoup
