I’m used to pouring all of myself into ringing bells, pushing my emotions out in beautiful music until I am cleaned and husked. It’s not working now; I have to be numb to get through next steps, and inaccessible emotions cannot be cleared.

A friend recommended Matthew Yglesias' "Common Sense Democrat manifesto" to me. I think it's pretty bad, but not for the reasons he wants me to.

It's not that I want to fight him on any of these "common sense" principles, it's that the premise is wrong. And that clarified something for me.
