I was also 6 that summer. My dad went to the matinee with his friends, came home and announced “I’m taking the kids!” Put me and my older sister into the car and off we went; it was awesome. (42 years later the two of us took him to see Rise of Skywalker.)

My volleyball coach when I was sulking in practice by reducing my effort levels, as I was trying desperately to get someone to notice how "sad" I was - "I'm not going to console you; I'm going to cut you." Next practice I was back to 100% effort. Performative sadness cured.

I wonder how they would spin it if Iran tested a bomb in about six months. I’m both terrified and intrigued by the prospect. What fresh hell would they invent to distract their base.

I’m a Canadian teacher. I have a box in my room. We almost all do. They put them in there no problem at the beginning of class and pick them up on the way out. I do random “phone audits” to ensure compliance. It’s been no problem. I enjoy having no phones in class.

Doesn't seem to matter much. Won't even give him pause, and no one out there will enforce it even if he is found in violation. He is governing via the "What are you going to do about it?" doctrine.

To be fair, the agreement with Trump is technically in "full force and effect", it's just that the full force and effect of Trump's influence on Putin is similar to the full force and effect of a fart on the wind.

I read stuff like that and it makes me sad. My school division handed posters of that variety out for all teachers’ rooms. I admit it is possible for them to go overboard with the number of “awareness days”, but everyone being welcome should be table stakes for a classroom.

Trust me. Canadians have noticed. Add to that the number of American MAGAs who are chest beating on social media saying things like “The Canadian military wouldn’t last a day fighting the US” and it is quite scary. Yes. We know. Never thought we’d have to.

We feel the same way about your current president. I sincerely wish you luck. I do not envy you, and realize the majority of Americans are good people. I really hope the damage can be undone, and our nations can get back to trusting each other soon.

Totally agree. No doubt they could take Canada, highly doubtful they could hold her. It makes me so sad I have been forced to have this thought. The US was our closest ally. How did it come to this? (Rhetorical question.)

Canadians like myself are taking this VERY personally. What is especially upsetting is the number of Americans on social media saying things like "You guys are a nothing. Canada could not defend itself against the US military for a day." Yes. We know. We just never thought we'd have to.
