That guy in that place who does that thing.
(I often point out that you probably can't beat them in development velocity either: the number of hours your startup can put into your project is a rounding error in a hyperscaler's product budget. Just adding features to your OSS will not win, because anything you can do, they can do faster.)

One of his bullet points was that hyperscalers can always run your project cheaper than you can: if your open-source as a SaaS is your entire product, you will not be able to beat hyperscalers on price.

It also snowed heavily in Portland, OR for the first Helm Summit, which is not "the south" but typically doesn't get much snow.

Make sure you get one with the Copilot key!

Visiting Canadians are stripping down to undershirts and boxers and generously donating their outer layers of clothing to Atlanta commuters on I-85, because to them this is still a moderately warm day.

The Coca-Cola headquarters security team has implemented emergency lockdown measures to prevent looters from taking advantage of the chaos to steal the secret Coke formula.

Local wildlife have been seen booking flights to Aruba and hitching rides with signs that say "Orlando or Bust".

...so as much as possible, arrange things so you can do that and enjoy yourself at the same time, and you'll have a great #KubeCon.

Most importantly, the purpose of the conference is for you, a member of the community (and if you're here, you *are* part of the community), to learn, develop your skills, help move things forward, and help others do the same...

Resting up in your room is both courteous to people who would rather not pick up whatever you might be carrying, and also your best chance of feeling better and being able to come back to more sessions if it's just the "worn out" version of not feeling well.
November 9, 2025 at 5:20 PM
If it happens that you don't feel well during the conference: take care of yourself to take care of your community. You're not going to get anything out of sessions if you're just sitting feeling miserable the whole time. (And remember, recorded, so you aren't completely missing out.)
November 9, 2025 at 5:20 PM
On the topic of clearing your head, there is a pet-a-pup session in one of the lobbies on Wednesday and another on Thursday. (You *will* see me there at some point on both days.) Or, if just chilling to some relaxing sounds is more your jam, there are three 15-minute "sound baths" on Wednesday.
November 9, 2025 at 5:20 PM
(Dear @cncf.bsky.social, there is never enough seating at KubeCon, especially in the corridors. Lots of people simply cannot cover a city block distance without a place to sit and rest partway. One tiny quiet room area is also not ideal.)
November 9, 2025 at 5:20 PM
...If you need a break, take one (remember, sessions are recorded). Go chill out in the exhibit hall or the designated quiet area and clear your head. There's usually a sponsored coffee spot or something. (Seating admittedly can be a challenge.)
November 9, 2025 at 5:20 PM
Around 2 PM each day you're going to start tapping out as your head fills with a whirl of new technical info, tools you just heard about that seemingly everybody but you knows, vendor pitches, and dozens of new faces every hour. Don't feel obligated to go to a session just because of FOMO...
November 9, 2025 at 5:20 PM
For the sessions you mark but don't go to, leave them marked, because when the recordings come out that will be an easy way to go back and watch the recordings of the ones you skipped.

Also, if you're not a "random conversations in the hallway" person, that's OK! The last several years, there have been red/yellow/green badge stickers available to indicate how conversational with strangers you're inclined to be. Don't be reluctant to use them.
November 9, 2025 at 5:20 PM
Don't worry too much about deciding in advance which of a dozen sessions you are most interested in for each time slot. I mark everything that looks interesting in Sched, then choose on the fly. And it's OK to choose based on "I can't bring myself to walk all the way over *there*."

Now go refill it. And keep an eye out for fountains with bottle fillers as you walk around -- the bottle-fed water-coolers tend to run dry by the end of the day and especially by the last day of the conference. Every time you pass a bottle filler, use it.
November 9, 2025 at 5:20 PM
Welcome! Right after you get through the registration line, get your badge, etc., fill up your water bottle. Drink some. No, that's not enough, more than that -- you almost certainly just got off a multi-hour plane trip in the last 48 hours, you're guaranteed to be dehydrated. A little bit more.
