Ah yes, the old engineers design something and never think of the poor sods who have get down and dirty to do the maintenance and repair. I speak with 'some' experience in these (sometimes unpleasant) matters!!!!

Sending them thoughts and prayers would be a great help too.

As someone who lives in the back arse of nowhere and hasn't been on public transport in a city (or anywhere) for many years, is this normal?!!

I think, regarding my better half and I, it's in the blood. My maternal grandfather was a chemical engineer, and my paternal grandfather was an engineer more than a farmer. My father in law is a mechanical engineer/fitter. Basically we like making, repairing, improving things. Makes the difference.

We built our own house, through a very good builder, recommended by several people from our parish. He was very helpful, also very particular over quality, which we liked. He wasn't the cheapest, or the most expensive. He let us use our own heavy equipment too. We had no issues whatever.
