No, seriously, I changed my profile pic and header to these, and the Automod on here didn't remove the Adult Content OR Nudity labels from my bio. Appeals haven't worked at all. Deadass, the Automod is the longest running shittiest part of posting on Bluesky at all. (Especially for the femme-coded)

HOWEVER! When it comes to labelled userpic/header combos, Warn and Hide actually behave the same. Note the images, as how the affected userpic/header APPEARS is different depending on where you're using Bluesky at all. If you click where the userpic should be, you WILL see it, so beware!

So, the 4 Bluesky NSFW Elements are the only ones we can actually apply to our images. They can also be applied to our userpic (pfp) / header combo in our bio, but only via the Bsky Automod.

Since space is limited, the ALT-TEXT on the images will go into further details of their corresponding posts. Main thing to know is that there's an NSFW toggle, and even if you DON'T want to engage with NSFW content, you're going to need to enable it to check a specific toggle, then disable.

The Bluesky user menu as seen on Desktop. You can't miss it, it's on the left of your screen. On Android and iPad, there's three horizontal lines at the upper left corner of the feed. Tap that to see these very same following options... - Home - Explore - Notifications - Chat - Feeds - Lists - Saved - Profile - Settings (Has a green circle drawn around it, and a green arrow pointing to it) - New Post Click/Tap the Settings option and refer to the next image. The settings menu. This looks the same no matter where you're using Bluesky. - Add another account - Account - Privacy and security - Moderation (A green circle is drawn around it, and a green arrow is pointing at the circle.) - Notifications - Content and media - Appearance - Accessibility - Languages - Help - About - Sign out Click / Tap "Moderation" and refer to the next image. The Moderation menu. This menu will look the same no matter where you access it, HOWEVER, on iPad, there is one difference that will be elaborated on in a moment. Moderation tools - Interaction settings - Muted words & tags - Moderation lists - Muted accounts - Blocked accounts - Verification settings Content Filters - Enable adult content (There's a switch to toggle. The default setting is having it off, in which "Disabled" will appear next to it, and the switch itself is greyed out. Under normal, sensible, circumstances, those that wouldn't want to bother with NSFW content would just leave this off, but due to a period where Bluesky ToS meddled with the NSFW group, you will at least want to turn this on to check a specific setting, in which you can then turn this back off completely when you're done. I'll explain in the ALT-TEXT of the next image.) The Moderation menu. This menu will look the same no matter where you access it. Moderation tools - Interaction settings - Muted words & tags - Moderation lists - Muted accounts - Blocked accounts - Verification settings Content Filters - Enable adult content (Now with the toggle switched on. The switch is now blue, "Enabled" can be read to the left of it, and below, there are 4 new categories with 3 settings each. NOTE: For some reason, on iPad, you cannot switch this on. You will get a message telling you that you will have to enable it via "the web". I don't know why this is the case, but it's fucking weird.) Adult Content Explicit Sexual Images. [Show][Warn][Hide] Sexually Suggestive Does not include nudity. [Show][Warn][Hide] Graphic Media Explicit or potentially disturbing media. [Show][Warn][Hide] Non-Sexual Nudity E.g. artistic nudes [Show][Warn][Hide] Okay, so to address what I mentioned in the previous image's ALT-TEXT; There was a period of time where Bluesky ToS had actually SEPARATED the "Non-Sexual Nudity" category from the NSFW group. During this time, it was also set to "Show" by default. While they've since walked this back so that Non-Sexual Nudity rejoined the NSFW group, I think the default "Show" setting somehow stayed in the code. I'm not knowledgeable enough in current website/app coding to explain this in detail, but it would explain people still seeing non-sexual nudity flagged content while never having touched their moderation settings at all. There's a lot of weird code stuff with Bluesky, honestly...

Absolutely NOT changing my pfp due to how much of a pain in the ass it was to apply the correct label on it (twice), but yes, I'm absolutely against the #bskycensorship that the new TOS will bring. I'm also against the automod that has been oversexualizing users with incorrect labels since 2023.

Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now. A new Mississippi law requires us to implement age verification for all users before they can access Bluesky. We think this law creates challenges that go beyond its child safety goals, and create significant barriers that limit free speech and disproportionately arm smaller platforms and emerging technologies. As a small team, we cannot justify building the expensive infrastructure this requirement demands while legal challenges to this law are pending.
