I saw this young gopher tortoise meandering down a trail at Wickham Park in Melbourne, Fla. recently. Per the FWC: “The gopher tortoise is the only tortoise naturally found east of the Mississippi River. Gopher tortoises occur in parts of all 67 Florida counties.”

This handsome Cooper’s hawk was perched high atop a tree in Wickham Park in Melbourne, Fla. this morning. These hawks feed mainly on other birds and most likely was hunting for prey. It didn’t seem to be too concerned about my presence. #Birding

“Contagious” is the word! I swear Don Scott smiled thru every second of the 12 minutes or so that Symone Sanders, Alicia Menendez&Michael Steele interviewed him&they pretty much smiled along w/him…I know I was! Every Dem in America should be smiling like Don Scott this morning. Gotta be contagious!

I saw this beautiful, otherworldly white stickpea flower yesterday in Cocoa, Florida. They’re also called powder puff plants or fairy dusters. These magical plants are valued for their ornamental beauty and ability to attract pollinators.

It’s not certain yet, but looks like those of us in Florida are going to dodge a major bullet with TS/Hurricane Erin looking like it’s going to do an easterly turn and veer off into the Atlantic. Gotta keep watching it though. 😓
