I think having a small inventory size helps with this. If hoarding items means I have to leave something behind when I find a new item, loss aversion pressures me into actually using items. Use it or lose it.

I tried this at first too, but this doesn’t work because it uses a Cartesian coordinate system. This doesn’t get the distance between a face of the cube and the origin point of the ray, it gets the distance to a point on the pyramid normal to that face. I think you have to use spherical coordinates.

Nah, it's almost definitely due to lag/latency. On Ultima's screen he was out of the circle, but on the server's copy of the game, he was still inside the AOE.
