New nails for Halloween! Hard to see in this pic, but they're black with sparkly blood red foil. They look super cool.

I'm almost caught up on The Lowdown. It's not as groundbreaking as Reservation Dogs, but I'm happy to see that Sterlin Harjo still has quite a bit to say and his wicked sense of humor and sharp cultural eye are intact. Every episode packs a punch and leaves me laughing and/or wincing.

Liberals upset about the White House demoltion is giving real "I would have voted Obama for a third term" vibes.

Last night was a rewatch of Let the Right One In - the OG from '08. And holy moly this film hits differently now that I'm out as trans. But even outside of that, this thoughtful, suspenseful, and well-thought-out film is full of atmosphere, terror, and heart. A+ Holds up so well 17 years later.

Then it was "It Feeds" from 2025. Woof. This movie felt like it was trying to ride on the coattails of Insidious a decade too late. Stupid people acting stupidly. Weak script. Not many scares outside of a few jumps. Avoid.

Next was the 2009 remake of Last House on the Left. Great cast. The SA scene felt a little unnecessary and the epilogue felt like a missed opportunity. But there were some tense moments for sure. Overall though, it feels like a product of the 00s over top violence. Meh.

A few nights ago, I started with Haunt, from 2019. That acting was pretty thin but the production value was good. And once it got passed the typical "group of young people who are going to be killed" set up, I thought it might get good. But the mythology and third act are a mess.
No bueno.

This last weekend I turned 55. And while I'm getting older, I'm comforted by the fact that I'm going to get prettier too.

As a follow up, @theabigailthorn.bsky.social deleted my post on the Philosophy Tube reddit. Without a reason. And it didn't violate any of the rules of the subreddit. So, I guess we understand her priorities now.

This sculpture is living in my head lately. It feels like it captures so much about my state of mind right now.

Graham Greene has walked on. I'd always hoped to meet him and to maybe convince him to play an elder in a Coyote & Crow live-action series. I've been watching in so many amazing things for almost my entire life.

So cool to see really old pics of your family that you've never seen before. My cousin just got me these - my great-great-grandmother (and one of her babies), my great-grandfather, and my great-grandmother (and my grandmother). I love visually seeing my Mexican and Cherokee heritage in them.

Hi! I'm a fan. I have truly enjoyed many of your essays. And as a trans woman, you're an inspiration. But I'm also Native American - specifically, a citizen of the Cherokee Nation. I have serious issues with this video. Please see alt text for my full message. Wado.

New Olreans is still there. Still living, doing it's thing. It's still an incredible city. It's still a place I visit, with people I love dearly.
But the New Orleans I knew, and still ache for, died 20 years ago. And my heart has never recovered. /🧵

I can smell Bourbon Street, the Riverfront, Cafe Du Monde, and Kaldi's coffee shop.
I can feel the soft, warm, sticky air of summer, and the thick, heavy rains of fall, the texture of the Crystal's dirty dancefloor on my feet.
I can feel the love of so many incredible people I knew - and know.
