Thanks, Steve, as always, for your invaluable reporting. I wondered if these stories about the kids’ costumes are meant to make fun of parents who are overreacting to the government’s Russian-values campaign. The illustrations seem comic. Would the subtext be that the campaign is not so extreme?

Colavito was later a coach for the Royals, and got himself ejected during the pine-tar game. He tried to take George Brett’s bat away before the umpires could inspect it.

Colorful NYT obit notes Colavito was on either end of two bad trades. First, in 1960. Cleveland traded him in his power-hitting prime for Harvey Kuenn, a singles hitter. Then, five years later, as Colavito’s hitting declined, they traded to get him back, giving up Tommy John and Tommie Agee.
