Way back in the day, in the mid 20th, there were gossip columnists that reported on celebrities involved in often ... awkward ... situations.
To spice things up, they'd post a "blind item", detailing what happened but leaving out who--at least for a time.

Good editors can be your best friend, preventing you from misspeaking, embarrassing yourself or, by pointing out when you've omitted a "not" in your sentence, stopped you from saying the polar opposite of what you meant.
