My biggest takeaway was how much easier it is to understand your own thought processes when you know you are not alone, and that there are actual scientific reasons behind certain thought processes. I enjoy knowing that I will take knowledge from this course with me daily! #UTcommtheory

Relational Dialectics Theory was my favorite theory we learned in class. I felt it helped me asses my actions on a daily basis and break down different thought processes that I could never call out by name prior to learning this topic! #UTcommtheory

Yes, agenda-setting is still relevant. Though I understand that algorithms are great for personalization and reducing information overload, I do think they reinforce biases and push out mass agendas to specific people. #UTcommtheory

A recent article by Vogue went viral after saying that it‘s embarrassing have a boyfriend. As someone who has had one for four years (who I love dearly), I can see what Vogue means when I am with other couples who bring each other down.

There is an influencer I have followed for many years named Kate Bartlett… she just feels like a friend! Though I know I don’t know her, I think since watching her life and dreams of old through social media gives you that “friend” feeling. #UTcommtheory

1. Comcast
2. They are one of the companies that practically own all media. Not only do they shape public opinion, but they also own wifi services. When you look into these companies, it can feel like a black hole since you have no other choice but to go with one of those providers. #UTcommtheory

I try to have balanced presentation online to appealing to people from different areas of my life. However, it can be anxiety-inducing when I think too much about how a post could come across to different people. For examples, I find selfies really embarrassing for an employer to see! #UTcommtheory

(A) I have noticed not only student work being AI, but assignments from professors being AI too. I am not a fan of AI and do not use it. So it can be frustrating knowing how much I am paying to attend college, just for the assigned work and grading/feedback to be AI generated. #UTcommtheory

I’ve witnessed a lot of #3 (Aggressive Assimilation) in other women in regard to feminism. You see a lot of disassociating and mirroring male-centric ideologies, leading these women to display internalized misogyny. This harms women as a whole, and prevents meaningful change.

I see a lot of pathos, logos, and ethos in advertising. One thing I think about is toothpaste commercials. They are always using Ethos when using dentists’ credentials to verify and promote a product/brand. #UTcommtheory

My biggest internal battle recently has been getting my screentime and phone addiction under control! It’s the first thing that popped in my head when learning about cognitive dissonance. I know my phone is harming my productivity, yet I still produce embarrassing screentime numbers. #UTcommtheory

I do agree with Media Multiplexity Theory. In a literal sense, the closer I am to people the more I share posts and videos with on social media. This also goes for media I consume. The closer we are, the more likely I am to talk about a book, movie, or article with. #UTcommtheory

Concept # 1 stuck out to me, specifically the use of the term ”disclosure” over “self-disclosure” since a lot of the information we share is not about ourselves. Family vloggers and even people I am mutuals with are way too comfortable with sharing private information about their kids! #UTcommtheory

My favorite movie of all time is La La Land. Mia and Seb are the perfect example of the certainty-uncertainty relationship dialect. Though the couple were both certain in their passions and careers, this left them uncertain in where their relationship would go. #UTcommtheory

I think axiom #8 resonates the most to me. Every job, internship, friendship, and even my relationship has come into my life due to shared networks! I know my mind is at ease when I meet someone new or work at a place where there is a mutual connection. #UTcommtheory

The biggest example I can think of when it comes to self-disclosure rules is my relationship with my mom. Oftentimes if my mom is angry with me, she won’t share context (or she won’t share it in a timely enough manner to fix it). I’m guilty too. This leads to frustration on both ends. #UTcommtheory

Family types are hard to describe as I feel that my parents’ approaches were situational. I would say my house started as a protective type, but turned into a Laissez-faire type as I got older. I think my family realized that we had different mindsets and approaches that didn’t mesh. #UTcommtheory

I’m currently at the airport with my friend, where she is cuddled up with her blanket. I sat next to her and helped myself to sharing the blanket with her. Waiting for her response, I realized that she didn’t have a reaction and didn’t mind sharing. I have a good friend! #UTcommtheory

My “I” and “Me” are at odds often. The most recent example was yesterday, when I had a flight to catch. The night before, I wanted to sleep and pack in the morning. But I know myself, and I packed that night. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have made it on my flight. My future self thanked me! #UTcommtheory

Reform of society when evaluating a theory is so important! I think this is the most societally beneficial criteria, as words without action are meaningless. The point of theorizing is to improve social conditions and create positive change, so this one stands out to me the most! #UTcommtheory

Socio-psychological tradition enticed me the most. Humans are unpredictable, and I feel that the biggest tell when guessing how someone will react or communicate is through psychological and social factors. I am also a people-person, so I am drawn to human-centric approaches! #UTCommTheory

I am more drawn to an interpretive approach. My biggest tell is that I am always looking to find meaning in simplicity, and I sometimes try to make things more complicated (oops). More importantly, I am a huge proponent of free-choice and that two things can always be true at once! #UTcommtheory

Science was never my best subject, but The Quantum Entanglement Theory will always fascinate me—there’s a really cool article on it by NASA that I recommend! I believe this theory falls under Burgoon’s definition. It was founded upon a “hunch”, and was later proved by modern science. #UTcommtheory
