though sending armed Marshals to someone's house to intimidate them into not testifying to a congressional committee is pretty borderline. ICE does seem to be acting much more closely to the Gestapo... including snatching up and incarcerating US Citizens. 3/4

They had the authority to arrest and imprison individuals without trial, using what was called "protective custody".
Are ICE and the US Marshals now being employed in the same manner as the Gestapo? No... not quite yet... at least for the US Marshals, 2/4
