The soundtrack for His Dark Materials (2019–2022) was composed by Lorne Balfe, known for powerful, cinematic orchestration.

He created distinct musical identities for each character, evolving them as the story progressed.

Some themes subtly change depending on which world the characters are in!

Though the score features live musicians, much of the eerie, alien-like sound design was created using sample-based textures and Kontakt libraries.

Spitfire Audio and other Kontakt-based tools were integral to achieving the film’s otherworldly feel.

The first film soundtrack to be sold commercially was Disney’s Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937). 🎶❄️🍎

It was the first-ever commercially released soundtrack album, issued on 78 rpm records by RCA Victor in 1938.

This set a precedent for movie soundtracks being released as standalone albums.
