Then, just as quickly as the haze had started, it ended. Everything was sharp once more, and returned to being dully lit by lightbulbs I’d been meaning to replace ever since I signed the deed. But the space between the trees wasn’t empty. A man stepped forward from beyond the shivering air and took a large step toward me, narrowly avoiding the downspout that kept trying to escape every time a harsh wind blustered by. He held his head high, his chin pointed upward, so he looked down upon me from underneath a set of eyelids that were capped by curly eyelashes.

Yes, horses can have brussel sprouts. He also likes sweet potatoes. But nothing will ever beat how semi-feral he gets over an apple.
