Prepping an ACT workshop at Trinity Services for my old friend and classmate, Thane Dykstra.

Bringing my youngest daughter, Sarah Wilson, in to assist on kid questions and to do a few kiddo and ID friendly demos.
She can kill it on principle-driven improv! 1/x

Last Gulf (of Mexico) sunrise from the screen room and headed to North Carolina for a few days. It was good to see my youngest two daughters, to swim in the sea, and to eat the fishes.

And, sometimes it is just your van and where you camped. Retirement is the best job I ever had and I had a really great job before ;)

Glowy orange ball spotted off Florida Gulf Coast. Not sure what it is, but I’ll monitor and keep you posted. (Gulf of Mexico, just sayin)

Out for a joyous storm run in Oxford, MS. I used to run these trails when I taught here. My favorite Mississippi trail runs are midseventies with thunder, lightning, and rain pouring down. So much fun and soooo many turtles. I had forgotten that rainstorms get them out moving.

Mob Speak Translation: That's a nice little music career you've got there. It'd be a shame if something happened to it.

I mean it's not exactly a threat, but....

Just because we are on a giant roadtrip doesn’t mean I can’t take my wife out for a nice dinner in Paris….well, Paris, Texas #whataburger

Of course I have an espresso machine in our Sprinter Van—lungo with just a touch of cream and sugar. Man can’t live by Aeropress alone! Also brewing fresh kefir on the road—probiotics for life.

In fact, at about train 3, Dianna laughed, like belly laughed, out loud at the absurdity of it all.
Road trip gonna throw you a curve. But also, THAT MOON!

Just so you know it is not all joy and light on the road in the van, last night we were completely blown out by TRAINS.

We had just watched the most astonishing moonrise near Vaughn, NM. I had found a spot for the night in Yeso, NM. Yeso is a ghost town (mostly).

Eastbound on Highway 60 across northern Arizona and New Mexico…Lordy I do love the open road!

Spent last night camping in the White Mountains in Northern AZ. Had a run around this lovely lake this morning. Cool temps at 8000 ft elevation. When I got back I discovered @theamazine.bsky.social has accepted 2 of my poems for publication: approaching seventy & the way fathers work. Woo hoo!

My current workshops & invited talks are brimming with talk & experience of what I am calling the “poetics of behavior”. IMO students of psychotherapy ought to be reading more poetry and fewer treatment manuals. Having an ear for the poetics of behavior is an enormous asset in doing psychotherapy.

Summer roadtrip has begun. We made a run up to Las Vegas to do an ACT workshop at U of Nevada, LV and then started making our way east. Drove about 3 hours last night to get to higher altitude and good sleeping temps. Traveling backroads in the van makes me happy.

Beginning prep for our summer roadtrip! Our actual route will be about 90% secondary/tertiary roads-no big interstates. We'll clock around 8,500 miles over of 10-12 weeks. Just a little bit of work booked, enough to season the trip, but not enough to define it. #RetirementSweetSpot

I’m teaching in Mexico City this week. The group of psychologists here are committed and incredibly welcoming. Just when I think that maybe I should let go of teaching entirely, I see the receptiveness in the room, in people’s eyes, and I think, well, perhaps a bit more.

My bride and I from 1979. Today marks 45 years together. Life has turned out so much better than I could have ever imagined.

I also met the philosopher W.V.O. Quine at that conference. My head was swimming! But 5 years post retirement, I'd rather go hiking or meet w/ my poetry coop. I still work a bit but I will be more likely to die on a trail run or hunched over a volume of poetry than I am writing one.more.article. 2/2

When I was a much younger man, I loved meeting the old hands at professional conferences. I am pictured here with the late great Fred Keller in Guadalajara in 1992. He was a brilliant guy who played a central role in the early days of behavior analysis. Also, an incredibly sweet guy. 1/x

I'm headed up to Wasson Peak this morning. I find great solace in nature and, some days, the company of other hikers.
