Saved by Stoppard Sir, In 1993 my wife and I went to see the first production of Arcadia by Tom Stoppard (obituary, Dec 1), and in the interval I experienced a Damascene conversion. As a clinical scientist I was trying to understand the enigma of the behaviour of breast cancer, the assumption being that it grew in a linear trajectory spitting off metastases on its way. In the first act of Arcadia, Thomasina asks her tutor, Septimus: "If there is an equation for a curve like a bell, there must be an equation for one like a bluebell, and if a bluebell, why not a rose?" With that Stoppard explains chaos theory, which better explains the behaviour of breast cancer. At the point of diagnosis, the cancer must have already scattered cancer cells into the circulation that nest latent in distant organs. The consequence of that hypothesis was the birth of "adjuvant systemic chemotherapy", and rapidly we saw a striking fall of the curve that illustrated patients' survival. People, I have three cats, that definitely doesn’t change the outcome of this scenario. In fact it can basically become three cats stomping on you at five freaking AM. Like Every Single Morning.

Ok, I keep getting asked about how to complain about Kimmel. The best way to complain that will have the biggest impact? See if you have a Sinclair or nestar station in your area. 2. Watch the local newscast tonight or some time this week. 3. Note the companies that bought tv adverts. 4. Call them and let them know you will boycott them until they quit supporting that media company. Trust me. I worked in tv for 45 years. Nothing you do will have greater impact. Nothing. This is a much more effective tool than cancelling Disney. We did cancel Disney but calling Joe's Jeep dealership who is buying adds on the local nexstar station will have a BIG impact. Joe doesn't need that grief. He will find another station to buy adverts on.

Overlapping letters make darker areas. Fewer characters over the white paper makes lighter areas. Same principle as with pen or pencil drawing. You can see the repeated use of the @ key in the upper right corner, among other characters used.

Mine had a recent run in with his nine lives allocation too. Here he is with his front boots mostly grown back in, but the tail poof took much longer for some reason. And another from before the tail got done when he was corked out of his gourd.

To intimidate the people that are volunteering is the point. Good for this brave woman who said she will volunteer again. Please be smart and safe out there.

In fact, an officer in the video can be heard suggesting that more people could get detained. "The message that it sent was very clear: For us to be afraid to come back and do the work that we're doing," Mendez said, adding that "all Americans should know that this is how their taxpayer money is being spent, and that it is really a crying shame. The people who are actually suffering are the people who are seeking asylum. For her part, Stone said she would volunteer again.
