On this day in 1066 the Battle of Hastings was fought (you know, the one King and Conqueror tried to act out).

In my Tudor class I cover the kings, queens, and nobles but each week I also include a ‘daily life in Tudor England’ segment.

I’ve done hygiene and education and this week I’m doing food so thought it would be cool if I baked Tudor biscuits for everyone! 😛

First attempt done. I was meant to roll the dough into balls, which I did, but I squished them a bit resulting in the cracking. Won’t do that next time.

They taste a little sweet, with a bit of mild spiciness from the herbs. Will absolutely be making these again.

Today I’m making a Tudor dessert from the book The Good Huswives Handmaid, published in 1597: short cakes.

I’ve been a Type One diabetic for about 53 years, got It when I was six so visit an Endocrinologist twice a year to keep things going smoothly.

My new endo has a mini museum in his office and it’s kind of cool. Like the picture below: a bottle of insulin from 1930. 😳

Pictures from my travels: a carving in St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna, Austria.

The carving is Anton Pilgrim, an architect and sculptor who worked on the church.

Consecrated in 1147, St Stephen’s was later added to in the early 1300s.

Pictures from my travels: Ostia, near Rome.

Built around 630 BC, Ostia was a major Roman port city. After the fall of Rome, it was abandoned and buried under sand which helped protect the buildings.

(It gets a mention in the movie Gladiator!)

Pictures from my travels: Speakers’ Corner in Hyde Park, London.

A place where anyone can discuss and debate their opinions.

Originally, people stood on boxes that had been used to carry soap, creating the idea of getting on your soapbox to express an idea.
