We're pleased to share this exceptionally interesting discussion from our annual Anne McLaren Lecture, an event that celebrates and promotes the enduring influence of women in science. Missed it? Catch up and watch the video recording on YouTube🎥https://youtu.be/_SRYODPQv0U?si=cnCuOELFV2NFMe3j&t=2
Anne McLaren Lecture 2025 - Women in Science
The 2025 Anne McLaren Lecture took place on 23 May 2025 at Kellogg College, Oxford, and featured a panel of brilliant women scientists, including Prof Dame Kay Davies, Prof Niki Trigoni and Dr Hilary Wynne. The panel, chaired by Dr Judith Hillier, discussed the challenges, contributions and achievements of women in science. Dr Anne McLaren was a leading geneticist and stem-cell scientist. She completed her undergraduate and DPhil degrees at Oxford after the Second World War. Working with mice in the 1950s, she performed the world's first IVF birth and went on to play a leading role in designing the regulatory framework for the safe use of IVF in Britain. Anne later became the first ever woman Officer of the Royal Society (as Foreign Secretary and Vice President) and was a founder of the Association of Women in Science and Engineering (AWiSE).
