Lovely American Wigeon at Myerscough Quarry yesterday morning, not bad views, but the weather was dull and absolutely atrocious, so taking actually photos with the P1000 was a waste of time

Jack Snipe today thanks to the sharp eyed @simonjohnno.bsky.social also Little Egret, 7 Gadwall, 101 Tufted, 39 Teal, 50 ish Pink Feet high NW, 9 Common Gull, Tawny Owl, Sparrowhawk, 2 Willow Tit, 7 RN parakeet and a nice grey wagtail best of the rest.

Happy New Year, I hope the birding pays off for all in 2026. Im not aiming to do a GM list 2026, I have done for the last 3 years (171 - 2025, 178 - 2024 and 172 - 2023). Unless new to me turns up in GM, then I'm just sticking to local patch and new for North West region ... got to have some goals 😉

HOM this morning, Spot Red, Ringtail & Marsh Harrier, Merlin, Buzzard, 6 Gold Plov, 1000's Pink Feet, 100's Blackwits, Redshank and Lapwings, Snipe and a Common Sand plus 48 Whooper and all I managed to photograph was a Barn Owl and a TreeSparrow 🤷‍♂️

Cracking morning at Upper Thurnham, the 2 Bewicks are still showing brilliant. Although they're with 4 mute and not with the main body of Whooper, bonus Grey Plover and over 500 Wigeon plus many many Pink Feet, Blackwits, Redshank, Curlew, Gold Plover, Dunlin etc.

Dark bellied of unknown origin still at Kersal today, seemed quite tame - came within 20 feet, and not bothered about my presence in the least plus plenty of snipe too.

This mornings mooch at Leasowe. highlights Lapland bunting, Snow Bunting, Brent Geese, 3 Turnstones, numerous Knot, Dunlin, Oystercatcher, Curlew and Redshank galore plus Mpipits and Linnets.

A great but chilly start to today down at Pennington Flash. GW Egret, Ruff, 2 Green Sand, Pochard, 2 Cettis, Waterail, 2 Snipe, Buzzard, Kestrel, Sprawk, and many assorted duck and Hirundines plus 37 Swift amongst the 55 species noted.

Walk around my local patch this evening. Buzzard, Sparrowhawk being mobbed by 2 meadow pipits, House Martins and Swallows. Kestrel, various Finch and Tits but nothing out the ordinary, Blackcap and Chiff, plus a magnificent hawking Emporer Dragonfly, perching then pursuing insect

Hale Head lighthouse for a change this morning, as it was extremely foggy and glumy locally. Marsh Harrier, sleepy Med Gull, 9 Great Egret, 150+ Shelduck, 2 Goosander, 5 Com Tern, 7 RL Part. 24 Ringplov. 6 LRP, loads of L Egrets, Oystcatcher, Curlew, Dunlin, GBBG, LBBG, Herr and BHG's, and Linnets.

There are worse ways of watching Red rumped Swallows and YLG's than on my jollys in Albufeira. Lay on a lounger with a pint or 2 of Super Dock ... lazy birding 😉

Another Irwell walk today, there was not a lot notable about except many Juvenile ChiffChaff, they seemed to be everywhere, and managed to get superb Red Admiral

A very close to home glossy Starling sp (most likely the Greater Blue Eared Starling) at lunchtime today, absolutely stunning plummage, shame its an escapee (as it's a bit far from sub saharan africa 😉)

Starmount Lodges sometimes surprises, found this juv BN Grebe at approx 9:10 am and was the highlight of the main lodge, somewhere I would never have expect one to turn up 🤩

Elton reservoir this morning, Dunlin & Common Ringed plover over capsticks, 2 fledgling Sedge Warblers being fed by parent and a Speckled wood in the ☀️
