I've been to Burlington, VT; Sioux Falls, SD; and La Push, WA... but have never set foot on NYC or LA soil, and had never been to Chicago until two months ago 😂

Sobering reminder every year that had the skies over Kokura not been cloudy/hazy at that specific time on that specific day, it's entirely possible that my own grandparents (who were from the area) could've been vaporized, and that neither my mom or I would've been born because of it 🪽 #Nagasaki
On Aug. 9, 1945, Nagasaki was devastated by an atomic bomb. That makes a visit to Kokura, the original target, a sobering reminder of all that would have been destroyed — and all that was where the bombs landed.
A walk through Kokura, the city spared nuclear destruction
Now part of the industrial sprawl of Kitakyushu, the city was originally meant to suffer the destruction that would eventually befall Nagasaki to the south.
