There are some in Britain who naively believe America still holds a special place in Britain’s diplomatic heart. The ‘special relationship’ as it’s referred to by our politicians was sacrificed when he was first elected in 2016. I was just reminding my fellow Brits.

We’ve seen Labour members rebel against unpopular policies before. If this is anything like the Assisted Dying Bill, MPs will vote with their constituents. Most Labour-controlled constituencies support Proportional Representation to some degree. Starmer wouldn’t take the whip for that kind of vote.

Even so, it has passed the first reading and is likely to pass the second reading, the fact that it has even made it this far is news in itself. I don’t think any bill like it has made it this far, at least not recently.
