And there lies the problem with politicians.

Arrogant people have the self-belief needed to believe thay can effectively wield political power. Humble people generally don't.

Give them a chance! Their leadership has been in place for just a couple of months.

His comments taken together don't say "hate" to me. They do suggest an outdated understanding of an evolving language.

You mean Richard O'Brien, who is himself non-binary and is a transgender pioneer? He helped crack my egg and many others. Modern semantics is an unfortunate blindspot, but that is a generational thing. He's still a hero to me and others who followed him in the 1970s and 80s.

It doesn't matter which party is in power if social attitudes are allowed to harden against us. Proactive, structured public and political engagement are both key.

I understand the sentiment, but, as odious as it might feel, participating in a photo op is part of the "game". Obsequiousness is an essential tool in the political toolkit. The GCs run rings around us because they play the game better than we do - shamelessly.

We can't have it both ways. We envy the influence and access of the GC crowd. And yet we want to spurn the opportunity to engage when it presents itself? One event is a small step, but this is how the game of influence is played. For our own sakes, we need to understand the rules to win it.
